Clinical history

This patient came to the University Medical Center LSU emergency room after falling playing volleyball and developing a cold foot. A CT runoff scan was ordered to rule out occlusion of the popliteal artery. The technologist performed the scan on the IQon Spectral CT scanner.


The CT images acquired on the IQon Spectral CT scanner identified a tibial plateau fracture in addition to a tibial plateau thrombus/dissection. Due to the patient's large size, the contrast enhancement of the leg was poor, and the popliteal artery was not well visualized.

Clinical significance

Using a low monoE allowed for accurate assessment of popliteal thrombus/dissection due to poor enhancement. This helped identify the occlusion in the popliteal artery.
