Glioblastoma multiforme

Patient history:

A 56-year-old male with recurrent glioblastoma multiforme was imaged on Achieva 1.5T at NeuroScience Imaging, Newark, Del., USA.

MR images and interpretation:

The axial T1-weighted post-gadolinium image demonstrates an irregularly marginated enhancing lesion in the left frontal white matter.


The coronal T1-weighted post-gadolinium image demonstrates ill-marginated left frontal enhancing lesion. Margin irregularity makes it difficult to measure the exact size of the lesion.


Post-processing of left frontal mass, selecting the enhancing component (arrows) allows exact measurements of volume of left frontal glioma. Volumetric measurements are more reliable than bi-dimensional measurements, in radiographic surveillance of cerebral neoplasms.

Impact of Achieva 1.5T imaging:

SENSE with 8-channel SENSE Head coil performs excellently in this case.
