Philips exhibits innovative, efficient solutions at RSNA 2007

Clinical News

Philips made a strong showing at the 2007 meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), November 25-30 in Chicago. Showcasing solutions designed to meet MRI customers' needs, Philips once again displayed a commitment to technological advances and improved efficiency in clinical settings.

MammoTrak dedicated breast MRI trolley

Demonstrations of MammoTrak, Philips' new dedicated breast MRI trolley under development, attracted large groups. MammoTrak will focus on patient comfort, coil performance and biopsy capabilities for efficient workflow. The trolley will be positioned over the existing tabletop so surface coils can remain in place.

Impressive new SmartExam packages

Philips introduced Elite Clinical Solutions - that combine state-of-the-art sequences, coils and peripherals and workflow enhancements - for Neuro, Body, MSK, Vascular and Cardiac applications. Philips' SmartExam program drew much attention again this year. SmartExam's automated planning, scanning and processing capability provides excellent consistency and reproducibility in a single mouse click. SmartExam Spine and Shoulder have been added to the already existing SmartExam Brain and Knee, providing excellent consistency and reproducibility in a single mouse click in about 75% of the typical caseload.

SmartExam Spine automatically detects and numbers the vertebrae. The unique user interface allows users to drag an axial stack to another disc level, where the stack automatically snaps to the disc's orientation, according to the user's preferences as defined in the learning phase.

Achieva A-series and X-series highlighted

Philips also displayed the newly-introduced Achieva 1.5T A-series at RSNA. It offers a 16-channel FreeWave acquisition system (expandable to 32 channels) and the industry's most complete range of 16-channel coils. Every part of the system - including the 16-channel data acquisition system, SmartExam, dedicated SENSE coils, Philips SENSE parallel imaging and a full range of imaging techniques and workflow innovations - contributes to the unprecedented operational excellence of the Achieva A-series.

The robust, short bore Achieva 3.0T X-series delivers enhanced performance for both routine and advanced imaging. X-series technology offers the highest resolution scanning in the industry. Being the most lightweight 3.0T scanner, the Achieva X-series mobile is the only mobile 3.0T in the industry, and was exhibited at this year's RSNA as fully released product.

Achieva XR , the third member of the X-series, offers full protection of investment for customers that need a high performance 1.5T with the opportunity to transition to 3.0T. The Achieva XR at Metro Health (Cleveland, Ohio) was recently upgraded from high performance 1.5T to 3.0T by ramping the magnet - no forklift required.

Wide-open Panorama accommodates a range of patients

A plus-sized "patient" named Manny demonstrated the wide-open patient space of the Panorama High Field Open (HFO), entering the scanner easily and comfortably to demonstrate that any part of his anatomy could be positioned in the isocenter. The Panorama HFO is the perfect imaging choice for large or claustrophobic patients, and parents can even be in the bore with children during their scan. The new ST coils available for use with the Panorama help to obtain exquisite images.
