FFE SPIR for MRI of meniscus

Application Tip
Vyakaranam, Ramakrishna , M.Sc. Doctors Hospital • Bahamas

In general we use protocols like PD SPIR,PD and PD SPAIR to scan the knee. By adding FFE SPIR, we can see the meniscul tears more clearly.

Add FFE SPIR

It is a conventional T1FFE with the "ingredient" SPIR added to it.
The resultant images show mixed contrast which shows
a good detail of meniscus when compared with other above mentioned protocols. It also shows cartilage and bright synovial fluid. The bone bruises and fractures can also be seen more clearly.
A TR of  900 ms, TE of 7 ms,
Voxel size of 0.6x0.6 mm with 140 mm of FOV is sufficient using SENSE Knee coil or SENSE Flex L coil. Scan time 4:04.

The following pictures show the difference.
