3.0T Fast knee - Mayne Clinical Research Imaging Centre

Shnier, Ron, M.D. Symbion Research Clinical Imaging Center Australia
Hughes, Kathleen Symbion Research Clinical Imaging Center Australia

Login is required to download ExamCards.

ExamCard purpose

Routine knee protocol with all scans times between 57 seconds to 1:21 min. These protocols use a combination of SENSE and DRIVE imaging to maintain a diagnostic resolution, and yet greatly reduce scan time. Further scan time reductions can be achieved by increasing slice thickness and decreasing number of slices.

Patient preparation

The ExamCard is intended for use with the Flex M coil. For larger patients use the Flex L.

  • Position the patient feet first supine.
  • Position the coil elements posterior and anterior over the knee.
  • Use a positioning strap around the middle of the flex coil to secure the coil to patient.
  • Let the patient's knee naturally rotate out laterally 10 to 15 degrees. This should be a comfortable position, and most importantly align the ACL to the sagittal imaging plane.
  • Place a sand bag lateral to the foot to provide support, and restrict motion.
  • Place a second sand bag on the medial side of the leg and drap over the ankle to reduce motion.
