ExamCard purpose

This release 2.5.3 Achieva 3.0T ExamCard has been created by the University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHSCSA), in Texas, USA for prostate examinations using the Endo coil 3.0T and the SENSE Cardiac coil.

ExamCard overview

T1 HR PEL AX is performed with the integrated Quadrature Body coil for a large FOV, which extends from the pubic symphysis to the aortic bifurcation. This is to primarily image the lymph nodes and bones as well as to evaluate for post-biopsy hemorrage.


The following scans were acquired with the SENSE Cardiac coil and Endo coil in dual-coil mode.


The muliplanar T2-weighted and diffusion weighted scans are acquired to assess for macroscopic and microscopic structural changes respectively.


The sagittal anatomic T2 weighted image is obtained first for planning. A line can be drawn parallel to the peripheral zone in this plane. Axial slices are then taken orthogonal to this plane in order to produce "true" axial slices orthogonal to the peripheral zone and posterior wall of the prostate.


The 3D-TE100 scan is the spectroscopy acquisition which demonstrates metabolite dispersion.


The dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) scan is acquired to look at the neovascular and angiogenesis changes of the prostate lesions.
