Description

A routine brain examination consists of T2W_TSE with DRIVE and T2W_FLAIR with full brain coverage in the axial plane, and T2W_FLAIR with full brain coverage in the coronal plane.

In addition, diffusion-weighted imaging is added. SENSE is used to reduce susceptibility related distortions.

 

In case the referral physician suspects tumor pathology, this routine brain examination is expanded with the following sequences: T1W_SE with full brain coverage in the axial plane. This sequence is used as pre-contrast scan.

 

In addition, a PRESTO_perfusion sequence is added to visualize wash-in wash-out of a contrast bolus through the entire brain. A pause is added in the ExamCard to start contrast administration, after which scanning is resumed.

 

Finally, T1W_SE is repeated in three orthogonal directions directly after the perfusion sequence, to visualize possible contrast enhancement.

Contrast agent / injection protocol

A contrast bolus of 10 ml Gd contrast agent with a flow rate of 5 ml/s is administered, followed by a saline injection.

Post-processing / analysis:

DW_SSh can be used to create ADC-maps in the ADC calculation tool.

 

Several perfusion calculation maps can be calculated from the PRESTO_perfusion dataset. This can either be done on the console directly (resulting in statistical maps in gray scale) or off-line on ViewForum. The statistical maps in ViewForum will be presented in color scale.
