Ingenia 1.5T 3D MRCP with breath hold

ExamCard description

A standard technique is to scan 3D-MRCP using MotionTrak or respiratory triggering (RT).
However, images may be blurred due to unstable respiration patterns of the patient and long scan times.

For this reason an new sequence is developed so that the 3D-MRCP can be scanned using the breath hold mode. Although the resolution of MRCP_3D_BH is less than MRCP_3D_RT, it can reduce blurring artifacts. The breath hold time is within 20 seconds.

  • The sequence is scanned with coronal slice orientation.
  • It uses 3D TSE with multi shot. A TSE factor of 224 is used to shorten the scan time and the turbo direction is changed to radial.
  • SENSE is used with a P reduction of 2.
  • TR is on shortest (1942 ms) and a long TE of 600 ms is used.
  • WFS is on maximum and SPIR technique is used for the fat suppression.

Patient preparation

The patient is positioned head first and supine.
The Anterior and Posterior coil are used with SmartSelect on.

Post-processing / analysis

If needed a parallell-MIP or a full radial MIP can be created.
