ExamCard purpose

This Release 5.1.7 Ingenia 1.5T ExamCard contains routine scans for lumbar spine imaging. It includes a T2W mDIXON TSE scan providing T2-weighted and fat saturated T2-weighted images within just one scan.

 

In our lumbar spine MRI, the value of mDIXON TSE is so obvious. Normally we perform T1 and T2 scans in sagittal and transverse orientation. It used to take too much time to add a sagittal T2 with good fat suppression. But now, using mDIXON TSE, we get the sagittal T2 fat suppressed images ‘for free’, that is: without adding time of an extra scan.

 

I find mDIXON TSE particularly useful for visualizing abnormalities in the fat suppressed sagittal T2-weighted images that are quite challenging to notice in the T2 without fat suppression. Our exam setup with mDIXON TSE particularly helps me in patients with sacrum insufficiency fractures and sacroiliitis, which were more challenging with our previous exam setup.

Patient preparation

Position the patient head first on the patient support, for patient comfort use the dS Base and the knee support. Provide the patient with hearing protection and the nurse call. This ExamCard makes use of the integrated posterior coil.

Post-processing / analysis

A SmartLine postprocessing step has been added to the T2W mDIXON TSE scan. The SmartLine step, ImageAlgebra, produces subtractions automatically, without user interaction, as soon as the reconstruction of the original image data is completed.
