3.0T TX prostate without contrast agent

Case Study
Rossi, Santiago, M.D. Centro de Diagnostico Dr. Enrique Rossi • Argentina
Dr. Volpacchio, Mariano, M.D. Centro de Diagnostico Dr. Enrique Rossi • Argentina

Patient history

A 60-year-old male patient with a palpable prostatic nodule and elevated PSA level.

MR Examination

Achieva 3.0T TX MRI with the SENSE Cardiac coil was used.

Images were acquired with the patient in supine position with a partially empty bladder prior muscular relaxant injection.
Respiratory-triggered and breath-hold sequences were used.

 Coronal Axial

Axial and coronal T2-weighted gradient echo images demonstrate an infiltrating low-signal intensity lesion in the left peripheral zone. Homolateral extracapsular extension as well as neurovascular bundle involvement is evident. The coronal image reveals seminal vesicle invasion. DWI images reveal diffuse water restriction and the corresponding ADC map confirms restriction and extracapsular extension.

Prostatic carcinoma with extracapsular and seminal vesicle invasion confirmed by histology.

Impact of upgrade from Achieva 1.5T XR to Achieva 3.0T TX

Many studies have much higher spatial resolution. In body imaging, sequences such as eTHRIVE and 4D dynamic perform well. Study times are maintained the same as with 1.5T, but image quality and resolution have improved.
