Arachnoid cyst

Case Study
Dr. Iaia, Alberto, M.D. Newark, Del., NeuroScience Imaging USA

Patient history:

A 38-year-old patient presented with headaches and nausea.

MR images and interpretation:

T1-weighted T2-weighted Phase Contrast scan
Phase Contrast scan

The sagittal T1-weighted image demonstrates a CSF intensity fluid collection dorsal to the left cerebellar hemisphere (white arrows).

The axial T2-weighted image (SENSE Head coil) confirms the presence of a CSF intensity fluid collection. Differential includes arachnoid cyst, Blake's Pouch cyst, and atypical mega cisterna magna.

The Phase Contrast study shows CSF flow along the dorsal and ventral (arrows) surfaces of the lesion, confirming an arachnoid cyst. No communication was present with the 4th ventricle indicating a Blake's Pouch cyst.

Impact of Achieva 1.5T imaging:

SENSE with 8-channel SENSE Head coil performs excellently in this case.
