MR image guided prostate biopsy of adenocarcinoma in 66-year-old male

Patient history

A 66-year-old male with with PSA rising from 5.1 to 7.2 in two years underwent an MR image guided prostate biopsy at Hirslanden Clinic, Switzerland. Previous TRUS biopsies in 2007 and 2008 were negative.

MR examination

Achieva 3.0T with the SENSE Cardiac coil and the endorectal coil were used in dual-coil mode for the exam, a flexible coil was used for the biopsy images.


 T2-weighted ADC Biopsy

T2-weighted image shows a suspicious focus of 10 x 6 mm in the right side lobe. It has restricted diffusion. The dynamic contrast series and spectroscopy do not show any distinct abnormality. No invasion of capsule, no enlarged lymph nodes or mets.


MR image guided prostate biopsy helped to take a biopsy from the lesion which was found to be adenocarcinoma Gleason 3 + 4 = 7.

Clinical impact of MR image guided biopsy in Achieva 3.0T

With Achieva 3.0T's excellent soft tissue contrast, lesion was clearly visualized. MR image guided biopsy using the Elite Prostate Clinical Solution helped to correctly biopsy the lesion which helped to characterize it.
