Total spine and total neuro imaging on Achieva 3.0T X-series

Case Study
Casselman, Jan, M.D., Ph.D. Brugge, AZ St. Jan AV Belgium

The 33-element SENSE Head Spine coil was used for total spine and total neuro imaging.

The SENSE Head Spine coil is a combination of the SENSE NeuroVascular 16 coil and the SENSE Spine 15 coil.

The large FOV of the Achieva 3.0T X-series enables total spine imaging in just two stages, which dramatically cuts imaging time.

Total spine images and interpretation:

T2-weighted Post-contrast T1-weighted
Post-contrast T1-weighted

Multiple lesions and a collapse of vertebra T5 and T8 can be seen

on the T2-weighted TSE total spine image.

On the gadolinium-enhanced, fat-suppressed T1-weighted total spine

image the enhancing lesions can be seen and the fat suppression

remains excellent in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar region. Notice

the excellent signal anteriorly, the visualization of the posterior fossa

and sacrum, this all with the use of only 2 stages and without the need

of a saturation slab anteriorly.

Total neuro images and interpretation:

T2-weighted TSE T1-weighted TSE
T2-weighted TSE
T1-weighted TSE

The 33-element SENSE Head Spine coil also enables total neuro

imaging using 3 stages. The sagittal T2-weighted TSE and T1-weighted

TSE images cover the complete brain and spine. Immediate switching

to the head elements is possible when more selective transverse or

coronal brain imaging is required.
