ExamCard purpose

This release 2.5 ExamCard is applied for visualization of spinal cord lesions. The 3D B-FFE scan is optimized for high resolution (0.5 x 0.5 x 1.0 mm) and high contrast to see sub-millimeter structures within the spinal canal. The scan time of this B-FFE scan is 4:45 minutes.

This sagittal protocol produces a high contrast and high resolution series of images for visualization of small structures. A volume shim box is placed only around the spinal column and canal for improved image quality.

These images depict a lesion of <1 mm with the

spinal roots of the cauda equina (arrows). The

resolution of the 3D protocol is 0.5 x 0.5 x 1.0 mm.

Patient preparation

Pediatric patients are often sedated, but this is not a requirement for this protocol.

The 5-channel Spine coil is used.


This 3D sequence may be reconstructed with MPR into coronal or axial planes as needed.
