ExamCard purpose

This ExamCard is made on Achieva 3.0T, release 2.6.3.
The SENSE-CSI sequence is developed for MR spectroscopic imaging (MRSI), also called chemical shift imaging (CSI). It is used when fast 2D spectroscopic imaging is required, e.g. for assessment of metabolic properties of pathology in a multimodal neuroimaging protocol.

ExamCard overview

The Smartbrain scan is used for 3D scout imaging.
The Reference scan is needed for calibration of the 8 channels in the head coil.
After these steps, anatomical imaging should be done according to the clinical indication.

The final scan is the SENSE-CSI scan.
The scan time of these three scans together is 4:56 minutes.

Patient preparation

The 8-channel SENSE Head coil or the 32-channel SENSE Head coil can be used with this ExamCard.

Position the patient’s head in the head coil.
Instruct the patient to keep the head immobile.

Contrast agent / injection protocol

No contrast agent is required for MRSI.

Post-processing / analysis

SpectroView is used with the following settings:

Spectrum Phase adjustments: Auto first/zeroth term versus Manual

Initial baseline subtraction:     no

Shift peak frequency:             no

Select peaks: 1.5T versus 3T

          Select NAA, Cho, Cr, Cr2 in every case
          Additionally select Lac, lip, mI, Glx in short echo time spectra

Analysis range: 4.35 to -1
          Display range: 4.35 to 0
          Baseline terms: 4
          Gaussian character: 90%
          Phase: real
          Lock relative frequencies

Correct for DSA filter: no

Generate Maps: no

Results Table: select the ratios Denominator #1: NAA (2.01)
                                             Denominator #2: Cre (3.03)
                                             Denominator #3: Cho (3.22)
