ExamCard purpose

This Release 5.1.7  ExamCard is created for  Achieva 3.0T TX for use with diffusion-weighted MR Neurography (DW-MRN) to display extremity nerves. In this case the knee.

 

DW-MRN is based on DWIBS (diffusion-weighted whole-body imaging with background body signal suppression). The major advantages of DW-MRN are high conspicuity between the nerves and surrounding structures and the 3D reformatting capability for visualization of the long trajectories of extremity nerves.

MIP in oblique lateral and anteroposterior projection shows extrinsic appearance of the mass (arrow) relative to a compressed and anteriorly displaced right tibial nerve (arrowheads). The common peroneal nerve (CP) is normal.

Patient preparation

An 8-channel SENSE Knee coil is used. The patient is positioned feet-first, unilateral imaging.

Postprocessing

Postprocessing of MRN data is performed using the full-volume MIP reconstruction and volume editing. Volume editing allows removal of superimposed structures with similar hyperintensity, such as veins and articular fluids, for good visualization of the nerves and lesions. In particular, the removal of superimposed structures is performed on full-volume MIP images, which are reformatted from the entire axial source diffusion-weighted MRN images.
