ExamCard purpose

This ExamCard is used on Ingenia 1.5T and Achieva 1.5T dStream systems on Release 5.2 for imaging hernia patients after surgical placement of a mesh against the anterior bowel wall. The MRI examination is performed to visualize the position and morphology of the MR visible mesh and to help rule out complications after surgery, including bleeding, displacement and shrinkage of the iron loaded mesh.

 

 

Before scanning, check that the mesh is MR Safe or MR Conditional. If MR Conditional, then perform the scan under conditions as specified by the manufacturer of the mesh.

Patient preparation

To reduce motion artifacts, position the patient feet first, in prone position on the tabletop.

  • Place some wedges or sandbags under the feet for comfort.
  • Position the dS Anterior coil on the patient's back.
  • Secure the coil with straps.
  • Provide the patient with the headset and nurse call.
  • Position the light visor at the height of the belly button.

 

Postprocessing/analysis

Thick minimum intensity projection (MinIP) can be used for qualitative and quantitative analysis. For further extensive quantitative analysis, a dedicated software is used.
