This ExamCard was created for imaging the middle ear, for instance in case of cholesteatoma, on Ingenia 1.5T at release 5.1.7.
Imaging cholesteatoma, benign tumors of the middle ear, has been a challenge. We used to do CT, but then we were unsure if we were looking at an inflammation or a cholesteatoma. Also determining if residual cholesteatoma exists after surgery or visualizing recurrence used to be difficult. Adding Diffusion TSE in our MRI protocol now helps us to address this.
Diffusion TSE is less sensitive to susceptibility differences than previously used EPI sequences. We appreciate the high resolution and the robustness of the sequence. Also our ENT (ear, nose, throat) physicians are excited about the high resolution.
In addition to Diffusion TSE for the inner ear region, also full coverage sagittal T1W, T2W MultiVane XD and DWI, as well as dedicated T2W TSE are included in this ExamCard.
Position the patient head first, supine on the patient support. Place the head of the patient on the dS Base. Provide the patient with the knee support, hearing protection and the nurse call before positioning the dS Head top on the dS Base.
SmartLine post-processing steps have been added to two scans. For the
- DWI_TSE, ImageAlgebra subtraction; and
- DWI_FFE_DIFFUSIE, ImageAlgebra subtraction and Diffusion ADC calculation were added.
The SmartLine steps start automatically without user interaction after the reconstruction of the original image series.
