ExamCard purpose

This ExamCard was created on an Ingenia 3.0T system at Release 5.1.9 in cooperation with the hospital Heilige Familie in Reet, Belgium.

 

The ExamCard consists of one scan only, a 3D MRCP single breath hold scan, that can be added to any abdomen ExamCard used in your routine. 

ExamCard overview

 

The duration of the 3D MRCP scan is 17 seconds.

 

The scan uses a total dS SENSE factor of 8.

The SENSE factor is set for two different directions, in

  • RL-direction (phase-encoding) to 4; and
  • AP-direction (slice direction) to 2.

  

To maintain an acceptable scan time, the slice oversampling factor is set to user defined 1.4.

 

Note: It may be advised to increase the 3D slice oversampling factor to counter backfolding in slice direction when scanning larger patients. Alternatively, the slice oversampling factor can be set to default, in which case the breath hold time will be increased to approximately 20 seconds.

 

The images reconstructed from the 3D MRCP scan can be postprocessed to MIPs (Maximum Intensity Projections) in the VolumeView package.

Postprocessing

In the VolumeView postprocessing package, different MIPs can be generated. For MRCPs, it is often beneficial to create MIPs of the entire 3D dataset, but also to carefully edit the data by excluding structures that can obscure the anatomy of interest.

 

Both the images of a radial MIP from the whole edited volume and thin slab (partial volume) MIPs of different orientations can be generated to new image series.
