ExamCard purpose

This ExamCard was created on Ingenia 3.0T with release 5.1.7.

The ExamCard contains scans of different weightings for sagittal and transverse scanning of the cervical spine.

For the transverse scans of the cervical spine, a mFFE (multi-echo gradient echo) sequence is used in addition to the T2W TSE. The image series reconstructed from the mFFE scan are images from the  

  • source scan, showing each of the four echoes acquired; and
  • an additional image serie, where the four echoes have been cummulated in the ImageAlgebra package.


Note: Images shown in this contribution have been scanned with the dS Base positioned on the FlexTilt device.

Patient positioning

Position the patient head first, supine on the patient support with the head on the dS Base. For good signal-to-noise ration (SNR), you can use the dS HeadNeck coil.

Provide the patient with the necessary hearing protection and the nurse call.


Optionally, before positioning the patient, for patient comfort, place the FlexTilt device for the dS Base coil on the table top at the magnet end of the patient support. The FlexTilt device is convenient for patients that cannot lay flat on the dS Base coil with their head. The FlexTilt can be adjusted for different levels of elevation, see images below.

A SmartLine postprocessing step, ImageAlgebra, has been added to the mFFE scan to cummulate the different echoes for better SNR and improved image contrast. A new image series is generated automatically by the system.
