BTFE:   to help improve visualization of the surrounding mesenteric changes.

T1FFE + FatSat coronal:   for evaluation of the entire bowel to help the radiologist assess the presence and type of abnormal bowel wall and the extent of bowel involvement.

3D gradient echo axial and coronal:   to visualize bowel distension and extra-enteric findings such as fluid collections/fistulae or other complications of the disease.

DWI through abdomen and pelvis:   to help improve confidence and detection of diseased bowel segments by showing high signal or impeded diffusion in the affected bowel segments.

Patient preparation

1 hour prior to the examination the patient has to drink a non-absorbable oral agent for improving the bowel distension.

At the beginning and/or during the exam an anti-peristaltic agent is administered to the patient. Purpose is to slow down bowel peristalsis and decrease resultant motion artifacts.

The patient is positioned supine and head first. The dS Torso coil solution is used consisting of the Anterior coil in combination with the built-in Posterior coil. The respiratory sensor is needed for the breath hold and respiratory triggered sequences in the ExamCard.
