ExamCard description

This R5.1.7 Ingenia 3.0T MR-RT ExamCard is applied for head and patients for who MRI simulation is requested prior to radiotherapy treatment. Different contrast are used for tumor delineation and to help identify retropharyngeal lymph nodes.

ExamCard overview

Axial DWI with SPIR fat suppression is used to assess the extension of the tumor and lymph nodes especially retropharyngeal lymph nodes.

Axial T2w TSE mDIXON (water only and in-phase) is used to assess tumor extension and into fatty tissue (2 mm thick slices).

Axial T1w TSE mDIXON (water only and in-phase) is used to assess tumor extension and tumor extension into fatty tissue (2 mm thick slices.

Dynamic series T1w 3D FFE, temporal resolution 2.5 sec, 45 dynamics. Used to follow gadolinium distribution. Contrast agent distribution is modeled after conversion of the signal to T1 relaxation times using the small flip angle method.

Axial T1w TSE mDIXON after Gadolinium injection (water only and in-phase) is used to assess tumor extension (2 mm thick slices).

Patient preparation

Patients are imaged in radiotherapy positioning and immobilized using a 5-point thermoplastic mask. The Flex M coils are used as receive coils. A gadolinium-based contrast agent is used during the dynamic series and for the T1w TSE mDIXON after contrast scan.
