ExamCard purpose

This ExamCard was created on Ingenia 3.0T with release 5.1.7.

One of the benefits of using mDIXON TSE in orthopedic imaging is that different image contrasts can be reconstructed from one scan. Therewith, the duration of the examination can be reduced.

 

This ExamCard provides axial and coronal T2W mDIXON TSE scan, covering both hips. Two different image types are reconstructed:

  1. In-phase images; and
  2. Water images.

With that, the necessary imaging contrasts are achieved within one scan, where the

  1. in-phase images allow detailed analysis of entheses and tendon structures.
  2. water images provide very homogenious fat saturatation over the complete FOV of 400 mm, visualizing edematous changes.

Patient preparation and positioning

Position the patient feet first on the patient support with the feet at the outmost position of the magnet end of the tabletop. Place the dS Torso coil over the upper legs and hips.

To prevent patient movement, position sandbags over the lower legs.

Provide the patient with the necessary hearing protection and the nurse call.

Tips

1. Scan duration can be reduced by reasonably increasing the acceleration factor SENSE.

 

2. Partial fat saturation can be set to get a personalized contrast and saturation from the mDIXON TSE acquisition. This is achieved by post-processing the mDIXON TSE scan in the ImageAlgebra package where the algorithm 'Addition: (A+B)' is used; A are the water images and B are the in phase images. The degree of fat saturation can be defined interactively by the slider in the ImageAlgebra package. A new images series can be generated and the SmartLine post-processing step can be added to the ExamCard for future reuse.
